Day 1: Marrakech, the red city

Arrival day in the red city, the city of sweet chaos.

We will pick you up according to your arrival time at Marrakech airport and transfer you to your accommodation. This will be your first introduction to the city, wandering through medinas, souks, and artisan workshops before beginning the journey to the mountains, our home.

Day 2: journey to the Atlas, amazigh land

Today we head towards the High Atlas Mountains, crossing towns where arab and amazigh cultures blend together.

We will visit the natural bridge of Imi N’Ifri. There, we will discover Amazigh legends and the mysterious “Silhouette of Africa” formed among the rocks. A place that leaves no one indifferent and serves as a prelude to what awaits us in the heart of the Tassaout Valley.

Day 3: local pottery and women of the high Atlas – “Voces que atraviesan montañas”, their book

Today we will discover the local pottery traditions of the region, exploring where and how this craft is born within a community that preserves ancestral artisanal skills rich in history. In every region of Morocco, a diverse and vibrant land, pottery is crafted in a different way. Here, local artisans continue to preserve a trade that provides a livelihood for many families in the area. From here, ceramics are distributed to major cities throughout Morocco.

We will continue our journey and visit a village of artisan women who have created their own cooperative, the first in the area. We will learn about their struggle for education and equality while sharing tea and conversations about Amazigh culture. They will offer us a glimpse into Amazigh life, helping us understand their history, traditions, and ancestral knowledge.

These women are the protagonists of the book “Voices that Cross Mountains”, which brings together their life stories and testimonies filled with authenticity and resilience.

At the end of the day, we will arrive at our accommodation on the banks of the river that runs through the valley, a magical place surrounded by mountains, the sound of flowing water, and local wildlife.

Day 4: Nomadic traditions and amazigh history

We wake up surrounded by mountains, with the sound of the Tassaout River greeting us in the morning. Today we will experience the authentic daily life of the Moroccan Atlas.

We will visit a historic village known for its centuries-old communal granaries and traditional architecture that blends harmoniously into the mountains. These structures once served as refuges during times of conflict.

We will walk its paths and discover the story of Mirrida n’Aït Attik, the Tamazight poet who gave a voice to the rural women of the valley through her verses in “The Songs of Tassaout” (Les Chants de la Tassaout).

We will end the day immersed in the local cuisine, a true celebration of flavours. We will take part in a traditional bread-making workshop (aghrum), baked in a clay oven. A woman from our family will welcome us into her home and share culinary secrets passed down from generation to generation.

Day 5: Villages of tassaout and return to the red City

In the morning, we will enjoy some final walks through the Tassaout Valley, spending time with the local community. If we feel inspired, we may even cook a tajine together before returning to the city. 

We return to Marrakech, crossing the High Atlas once again and winding through the mountains that slowly fade into the distance. Behind us remain days spent as part of a family, understanding life in the Atlas and becoming part of it.

Day 6: Marrakech and farewell – until next time!

Final day of the journey. Marrakech bids us farewell with its usual sweet chaos. We will have free time to explore the city and say goodbye to a country that will always welcome us with open arms.

Transfer to the airport and end of the trip.

On this route, accommodation standards will vary according to the itinerary and the opportunities available along the way. In the Tassaout Valley, accommodation will be simple and authentic, staying in a local gîte d’étape and in the mountain guesthouse owned by the TITRIT team’s family. Accommodation in Marrakech and Imi N’Ifri will be of a comfortable standard.
